The history of the Dominican cigars Arturo Fuente begins in Cuba. Because there the Fuente family originated when Arturo Fuente senior took over his father’s profession of making cigars. Carlos Fuente senior was practically born in the cigar making industry and not long after taking over his father's company, Carlos junior (Carlito) was born. He also followed the footsteps of his father. Eventually the Fuente family left Cuba and then Tampa to move to Nicaragua, where they opened a factory. Unfortunately, this factory was burned to the ground by Sandinist rebels. Later they also started a factory in Honduras. But again, this factory was destroyed as well, this time by a fire. In 1980, the Fuentes opened a factory in the Dominican Republic with seven employees and this time, the factory survived and started growing. Nowadays Arturo Fuente cigars has grown to have more than two thousand employees in six factories.
