Many brands produce and offer cigars made on Cuban soil. Two of the biggest brands are Cohiba & Bolivar. The Cohiba cigars are produced in the best areas of Cuba. Where most cigars are dried twice, the Cohiba cigar is dried three times. Which is why it has such an unique flavour!
The Bolivar cigars were introduced in 1901 and offer a solid cigar with a burst of flavour. The melange is composed of the leaves of the Vuelta Abajo zone.
Cuba produces long filler cigars only. A long filler cigar consists of three parts. The leaflet, the cover sheet and the rolled tobacco leaves from where the main nerve is removed. The long filler cigars are produced in areas of South America where the climate and the soil are optimal.
On February 7th, 1962, the President of America extended John F. Kennedy's trade embargo against Cuba. Meaning that the Cuban cigars were banned in America. America extended the trade embargo at that time due to the communist influences that the country had. President John F. Kennedy arranged an order of 1000 Cuban cigars just before the trade embargo. After that, the Cuban cigars became illegal in America.
The producers of the Cuban cigars pulled through the trade embargo to other countries. They moved to the Dominican Republic and other South American countries. Where they started a new trade in cigars. These cigars could be exported to America because they had no Cuban influences. Although high-quality cigars, they never figured how to surpass the original quality of a Cuban cigar that way.
